Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell says he has full movement in his legs and is steadily regaining movement in his upper body, three days after a neck injury that sent him off the field on a stretcher.
Campbell, 26, went down at the start of the fourth quarter of Sunday's home game against the Minnesota Vikings, after tackling tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was taken straight to a hospital.
"One Day at a Time"
In a statement released by the Lions on Wednesday, Campbell said he was encouraged by how quickly he has improved. He acknowledged that more work lies ahead but said he is staying positive and taking his recovery "one day at a time."
He thanked fans for an outpouring of prayers and support. He also credited his faith, his family, and his teammates and coaches for carrying him through.
Campbell singled out the athletic trainers and medical staff who treated him on the field during what he called difficult moments. He also praised the doctors at Henry Ford Hospital and the Lions' medical team for the care they have given him and his family.
An All-Pro Career Interrupted
Detroit drafted Campbell out of Iowa with the 18th overall pick in 2023. He broke out last season, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors with 176 tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles and four passes defended. He had 57 tackles through seven games this year.
Campbell and his wife, Megan, welcomed their first child, a son named Cooper, four months ago.
