WASHINGTON — Donald Trump unexpectedly became the center of a viral crypto moment after repeatedly referring to “meme coins” as “mimi coins” during fictional courtroom questioning surrounding controversy over his cryptocurrency ventures.

What was supposed to be a serious discussion about cryptocurrency quickly turned into an internet spectacle after Trump appeared to struggle with the term “meme coin.”

According to this satirical scenario, Trump initially referred to the tokens as “mimi coins” while answering a question about speculative cryptocurrencies.

When the term came up again, he reportedly repeated the pronunciation.

“These mimi coins, a lot of people are talking about them,” the fictional Trump quote reads. “Very successful coins. People like them.”

The imaginary exchange immediately sent social media into overdrive, with crypto traders joking that “mimi coin” could become the next major meme-token trend.

From Meme Coin to “Mimi Coin”

Trump's relationship with cryptocurrency has attracted enormous attention since the launch of the Official Trump token, commonly known as TRUMP.

The token became one of the most talked-about political meme coins in the world, while Trump's broader connections to cryptocurrency projects have also generated scrutiny and controversy.

That made the fictional pronunciation mistake particularly amusing to crypto communities: the man whose name became attached to one of the world's most recognizable political meme coins supposedly couldn't pronounce the category correctly.

Within minutes, jokes began circulating:

  • “Forget meme coins. We trade mimi coins now.”
  • “The mimi coin supercycle has officially begun.”
  • “Meme coins are dead. Welcome to mimi season.”

A Viral Moment Waiting to Happen

The story also resembles a real anecdote involving Trump-linked crypto figures. Fortune reported in July 2026 that Steve Witkoff had once pronounced “meme coins” as “me-me coins” while discussing how Trump became interested in cryptocurrency through his son Barron.

But there is currently no verified evidence that Trump himself made the “mimi coin” remark in court.

For now, the courtroom version remains satire — although in the unpredictable world of crypto, “mimi coin” might be exactly the kind of phrase traders turn into a token overnight.
